What Does the Bible Say About Mirrors? 9 Verses from Scripture

James 1:23

ESVFor if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
KJVFor if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
NASBFor if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
NIVAnyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror
NLTFor if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror.

1 Corinthians 13:12

ESVFor now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
KJVFor now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
NASBFor now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
NIVFor now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
NLTNow we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

ESVThe natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

NASBBut a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
NIVThe person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
NLTBut people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

ESVAnd we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

NASBBut we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
NIVAnd we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
