Arminianism in Christian theology can be traced back to the Protestant Reformation, though it’s theological roots go back centuries.

The term “Arminianism” comes from the name of the Christian Dutch theologian Jacobus Arminius (1560-1609), who was influential in articulating its doctrines in the 16th century. [1]

Arminian theology values doctrines such as God’s grace and the possibility of salvation for every person, as well as the other beliefs, like the Trinity, that characterize orthodox Christianity.

Arminian theologian Roger Olson summarizes Arminianism’s central belief this way:

“sinners who hear the gospel have the free will to accept or reject God’s offer of saving grace and that nobody is excluded by God from the possibility of salvation except those who freely exclude themselves.” [2]
